New Design … Again
January 15th, 2009 HAHAHAHAA. I’ve learnt so much from designing this website, and i’m really proud of myself. Thankfully this redesign didn’t take as long to do as the last.
It’s made entirely without tables, which before i was falling back on as it was all i really knew. From Wordpress i have learnt how to use divs etc quite efficiently, and now the site is made entirely of them and made pretty through css (which most good web designs are made like, i hear). The site itself is much more functional and easier to manage, as well as being more stylish imo. What do you guys think?
Note that it’s still not finished, and i’ve got a few more tweaks to sort out. I have a problem with wordpress which means i can’t edit my comments.php file, meaning i can’t finish up my design in that area, but no worries. I’ll just wait till there’s a fix. IE has failed me so many times i doubt i will bother to make this site work perfectly on there anymore. It’s still functional, but not as pretty. I believe this is mainly because of IE’s horrid translation of padding etc. If you commonly use IE for browsing, why? Please try to give me a good reason why you choose IE over Firefox. Annoyingly over 60% of internet users use IE, which pains me to think about. Although i imagine that’s mainly net n00bs.
Shrike introduced me to some great new music, the Yoshida Brothers. I ended up buying their best of album after hearing snippets of a few of their songs on their website (http://www.domo.com/yoshidabrothers/) They have a lovely style and it’s a really pleasurable listening experience. Definitely worth your money in my opinion!
I promise i’ll get some actual content (meaning art) on this site as soon as i can. Being busy with college and being unwell etc is stalling me. My back has ached since new years and it won’t stop, i really need a new computer chair. If anyone has any suggestions for great computer chairs, please lay them on me! I would be in your debt.
And i think that’s it for today, just thought i’d make a new post.

Your site is looking good. I really like this lined paper form. I was checking out your site in ie and I would say all your problems are due to margin and padding. Unfortunatlly alot of people still use it but I wish it would disapear as well. As for the back problems check these out

I sat in one of these knee chairs before and have been meaning to get one since. They are very comfy. They make sitting in correct posture easier.

I like your design! This is my first visit to your site, I followed your link from PJ. The design is great, though the colors are a bit drab. Something you should be aware of is that if one’s browser window isn’t tall enough, the content of the left bar is cut off. On my laptop in FF, I can’t see all of the sidebar. I’m not sure how you’d fix this, except by making the footer below the content, allowing the whole page to be scrollable instead of just the content. Or just put less in the sidebar.

IE is already on people’s computers/laptops when they buy them. People are knoobs and just use that instead of bothering to download firefox.
Its a total bitch.. IE and Apple gets there before anyone else, even though they’re crap so people have to go use IE and Apple instead becasue they have it…
Its fucking annoying…
and…
Sorry. I wont rant.
Nice layout etc… excellent job. Would love to see a site that is completly finished.. some day
becasue that would be so beasty.
. Wot?
The ‘i’s are still an issue though. Learn to capitalise

Hey guys! Thanks for commenting, sorry for the delay.
The problem really is that i wanted the sidebar to always be there. What i could do is to have it scrollable. I will also think about making it smaller in general so it can fit on more resolutions.
Hey kwigbo, haven’t seen you around for a while. Yeah it’s all about padding and margins - and as far as i’ve read the problem is deff on the end of IE. Thanks for the link! I’ve seen those things before, and my mum was actually telling me to consider them. Really unsure how i would feel about it - my main issue is the price tbh. We’ll have to see.
Thanks Reo.
Hey RoboBOT! I have a feeling i might brighten up the place a little, but it’ll take a bit of work. You’re right about the left bar, i had noticed it before and had been meaning to fix the problem, so thanks for reminding me
Hey lisa. Tbh you’re probs right, i should learn. It’s so annoying though…
Anyway laters guys.
