It’s made entirely without tables, which before i was falling back on as it was all i really knew. From Wordpress i have learnt how to use divs etc quite efficiently, and now the site is made entirely of them and made pretty through css (which most good web designs are made like, i hear). The site itself is much more functional and easier to manage, as well as being more stylish imo. What do you guys think?

Note that it’s still not finished, and i’ve got a few more tweaks to sort out. I have a problem with wordpress which means i can’t edit my comments.php file, meaning i can’t finish up my design in that area, but no worries. I’ll just wait till there’s a fix. IE has failed me so many times i doubt i will bother to make this site work perfectly on there anymore. It’s still functional, but not as pretty. I believe this is mainly because of IE’s horrid translation of padding etc. If you commonly use IE for browsing, why? Please try to give me a good reason why you choose IE over Firefox. Annoyingly over 60% of internet users use IE, which pains me to think about. Although i imagine that’s mainly net n00bs.

Shrike introduced me to some great new music, the Yoshida Brothers. I ended up buying their best of album after hearing snippets of a few of their songs on their website (http://www.domo.com/yoshidabrothers/) They have a lovely style and it’s a really pleasurable listening experience. Definitely worth your money in my opinion!

I promise i’ll get some actual content (meaning art) on this site as soon as i can. Being busy with college and being unwell etc is stalling me. My back has ached since new years and it won’t stop, i really need a new computer chair. If anyone has any suggestions for great computer chairs, please lay them on me! I would be in your debt.

And i think that’s it for today, just thought i’d make a new post.

I sometimes get people saying something along the lines of, “Ah, you’re modest, that means you’re a true artist!”. This is of course bullshit. Why do people think this? A true artist, if such a definition is even required, is shown through their artwork. They must think it makes them sound smart, but they are trying to be nice at the same time so i wouldn’t hold a grudge against them for it or anything.

Modesty is a bit of a strange thing. When someone is being modest, you could get the feeling they are so because it results in the viewers perception of the artwork to seemingly improve. With low expectations, the ultimate result has more of an impact.

For example, you may have someone tell an artist that their piece is really good. But what if the artist had previously stated that it wasn’t very good? The viewer could as a result say, “No, it’s GREAT. Better than i could ever do,” and as a result the modesty is used in a negative way. It’s used to psychologically alter a viewers perceptions or reply. It’s used as an ego boost.

Being modest is fine, but i can’t help to have this idea in the back of my head - even when i am being modest myself. Actually agreeing with someone that your work is good i find is much more difficult, with fear of sounding arrogant. Saying, “i’m quite proud of myself,” seems to be the easy way round this. However it gives the impression that you weren’t proud of yourself for previous things, it actually makes the viewer sympathize on a very subtle level.

I’ve managed to get a decent and simple gallery system going now. I will be updating it with my work in the next few days.

I’ve also been slowly pimping up the site in general. I hope you’ll agree it’s pretty nice now. Remember to comment in the guestbook! Even if it’s just for the sake of it, i just like knowing who’s watching. Also i’m a comment whore.

So you’re probably asking yourself, ‘will i care enough about this blog to check back often?’. Well, that depends whether you’re interested in what i have to say…

I’m currently working on 2 main projects - casually, of course …as that is my middle name.

Rustbug will probably interest you most, especially if you know me from PixelJoint. It’s going to be a sidescrolling-rpg-shmup (by my standards) where you control a robot called Rustbug around a post-apocalyptic setting (yeah yeah, done before a million times…) shooting monsters and robots to bits. Here’s the little hero in question, incase you haven’t met him before:

It is however a long time coming. I heard that some of my friends and fans of RB will wanna know what’s happening with the project as it progresses, so this will be where you can find your information. I will be categorizing all Rustbug entries together for you.

The other project is more personal i suppose, and not many people have even heard about it. I’m trying to write and create a graphic novel (calling it that because it’s well, not a manga, and comic gives the impression of short humorous stories over the web). I’ve finally stuck to the name The Louring for it. The general plot is pretty much finalized now. You can actually see some character designs over at my Deviant Art page and perhaps here when i get my gallery up. One day i might unleash some info of it on you guys, and maybe even some actual panels. However i’m very new to the whole graphic novel or comic creating scene, so it may be a long while before you’ll see anything significant in terms of pages. I am planning on drawing together some pages to test my abilities when it comes to comics some time, so wait and see for them.

So woooohoooo. Only a gallery to go and this site will be propa awesom leik! (honest).
